Simon Katich Accuses Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja of Unusual Psychological Tactics

Former Australian cricketer Simon Katich recently weighed in on the tensions that have arisen between Indian cricket stars and Australian journalists ahead of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.

In the days leading up to the much-anticipated match, both Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja found themselves in uncomfortable situations with members of the Australian press. Kohli had a heated exchange with a female journalist who took photographs of his family without their consent, while Jadeja faced criticism for allegedly not responding to questions in English after a practice session at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Katich, speaking on Channel 7, described these incidents as part of the “mind games” often associated with a series of such importance. He expressed his belief that these confrontations were not helpful, stating, “The media are here to promote the game and I don’t know what the Indians are thinking at the moment. That’s their problem.”

In a notable incident, Kohli confronted a journalist from Channel 7 at the airport after arriving in Melbourne with his wife, Anushka Sharma, and their children. Reports indicate that Kohli was visibly upset about the invasion of his family’s privacy and requested to see and delete any pictures taken of them. He emphasized his need for privacy, particularly when it comes to his children, explaining, “With my kids, I need some privacy. You can’t film without asking me.”

In another matter, during a media session following India’s practice at the MCG, Jadeja was criticized for allegedly not taking questions in English. The situation escalated when an Australian journalist expressed frustration over this, even after India’s media manager explained that the conference was primarily meant for Indian reporters. Despite the manager’s attempts to clarify, tensions remained high, with the Australian journalist expressing dissatisfaction and even calling the organization “hopeless.”

An Indian reporter who attended the press conference noted that many Indian journalists also missed their chance to ask questions due to time limitations but did not react as aggressively as their Australian counterparts. This situation highlights the pressures and expectations both teams face as they prepare for the series.

As the Border-Gavaskar Trophy unfolds, these interactions remind everyone of the intense nature of international cricket, both on and off the field.
