Indian Embassy Actively Assisting Workers in Libya

New Delhi: The Indian Embassy in Tripoli is closely monitoring the situation of a group of Indian workers who traveled to Libya without the necessary documentation. On Friday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) informed the public that efforts are being made to help these workers return home.

During a press briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared that the embassy is in communication with Libyan authorities to secure exit permits for the workers. Reports indicate that these individuals had been lured by job offers in a cement factory.

"These workers arrived in Benghazi after transiting through Dubai but faced challenges upon arrival due to their lack of proper documentation. We became aware of their difficulties and our Embassy in Tripoli has stepped in to assist them," Jaiswal stated.

He also mentioned that the embassy has arranged for food and essential daily items for the workers. The Charge d’Affaires at the embassy met with them on November 4 to provide support.

Since the workers entered Libya without the appropriate documents, they require an exit permit to leave the country, as per local regulations. Jaiswal assured everyone that the embassy is diligently working on this matter, though securing the exit permits has taken some time due to the initial lack of documentation.

"Once the exit permits are obtained, we will facilitate their return home. The embassy is in regular contact with the workers, their employers, and is continuously updating the situation," he added.

Efforts to assist these workers highlight the commitment of the Indian government to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad.
