Richa Ghosh Shines as India Clinches T20I Series Against West Indies

In an exciting finale, India’s Richa Ghosh was named Player of the Match after she led her team to a commanding 60-run victory over the West Indies in the third T20 International on December 19. The match took place at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai and showcased some remarkable batting from the Indian squad.

Ghosh made headlines by smashing a stunning half-century in just 21 balls, tying for the fastest fifty in Women’s T20 Internationals. With 3 fours and 5 sixes, she set a new record, surpassing Smriti Mandhana’s previous mark of 24 balls, which had stood for nearly five years. Mandhana herself opened the innings with an explosive 77 runs off 47 balls, setting the stage for a formidable total of 217 runs for India, losing just 4 wickets.

Following Mandhana’s departure, other players like Jemimah Rodrigues and Raghvi Bist contributed to the scoreboard, but it was Ghosh who stole the show with her electrifying performance. India’s batting display was highlighted by a remarkable tally of 7 sixes, with Ghosh hitting 5 of them before being dismissed on the penultimate ball of the final over.

In the post-match presentation, Ghosh praised Mandhana for her aggressive innings, noting how it encouraged the rest of the team. "We got a good start today. The way Mandhana played, I just continued to do that. I enjoy hitting the ball when it’s in my zone. It feels great that we all contributed to the win," Ghosh shared.

Mandhana celebrated the team’s achievement of winning their first T20I series on home soil in five years. She expressed pride in the collective effort and emphasized the importance of taking responsibility within the team, particularly with the influx of new talent. "We talked about how it had been five years since we won a T20I series in India. Today was a chance to change that. The girls played with determination, and I was impressed with Richa’s batting," said Mandhana.

With this win, India has made a significant mark in women’s cricket, paving the way for future successes.
