Chandrababu Naidu: ‘One Nation, One Poll’ Initiative Pushed to 2029

Andhra Pradesh: Naidu Challenges Claims of Early Elections

In Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu recently disputed former Chief Minister Jagan Reddy’s assertion that the "one nation, one election" initiative could take place in 2027. Naidu emphasized that simultaneous elections are unlikely before 2029 due to the necessary processes of delimitation and census.

Naidu stated, "One nation, one election will not have a significant impact on Andhra Pradesh since we have been conducting simultaneous polls here since 2004." He noted that his party, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), has shown its support for the ONOE initiative.

As Reddy encouraged his party workers to gear up for the 2027 elections, Naidu accused the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leadership of lacking understanding about ONOE. He suggested that they are merely engaging in "wishful thinking" following their previous electoral losses.

According to sources within the TDP, the state government aims to prioritize the completion of key projects such as Polavaram and Amaravati before the next elections. This signals a clear message to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) about their preference against holding early elections, at least not in 2027.
