Bengaluru: Tech Leaders Celebrate India’s Spirit for Change

In Bengaluru, global leaders from the technology sector are taking note of India’s strong drive for transformation and growth. Their observations were shared during the recent GHCI 24 event, which brought together various influential figures in the tech industry, showcasing diverse perspectives.

Brenda Darden Wilkerson, who serves as the President and CEO of AnitaB.org and is also a board member of P33 Chicago, expressed her admiration for the Indian community’s genuine enthusiasm. She said, "What truly captivated me was the sincere eagerness to explore possibilities. People here constantly ask themselves, ‘What else can I achieve? Who can I become? Where can I go next?’ When there’s a real hunger for growth, the impossible can become possible."

Adding to this sentiment, Bo Young Lee, President of the AnitaB.org advisory and former Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer at Uber, praised the unique passion found within the Indian community. She remarked, "There’s a remarkable intensity here, a fire that can spark significant change. It’s evident in every individual. It feels like there’s untapped potential everywhere, and that’s really what sets India apart."

Bo Young Lee also highlighted the crucial role of imagination in technology, recalling a challenge she faced at Uber regarding safety for women drivers and riders. Despite the engineers’ good intentions, she found that a room filled mostly with young men lacked the perspective to consider the safety concerns women might have when getting into a stranger’s car. "Their focus on technical solutions overshadowed the need to understand human experiences," she noted, emphasizing the importance of blending technology with social understanding.

Both leaders left the gathering encouraged by the spirit of transformation they witnessed in India, hopeful for the future of the tech industry there.
