Ruud van Nistelrooy has bid a heartfelt farewell to Manchester United and its fans following his departure from the club. After serving as an assistant coach, he stepped into the role of interim manager when Erik ten Hag was dismissed due to disappointing results.
Shortly after, the club appointed Ruben Amorim as the new head coach. With Amorim’s arrival, it was determined that Van Nistelrooy should part ways, as the new manager brought his own staff from Sporting Lisbon. In a touching message shared on social media, Van Nistelrooy expressed his gratitude to the backroom staff, players, and supporters, reminiscing about the treasured moments they shared during his time with the team as a player, coach, and manager.
The Dutch football legend emphasized that Manchester United will always hold a special place in his heart. He expressed his hope for the club to find its way back to glory soon.
In his message, he stated, “To everyone at Manchester United Football Club, especially to the backroom staff, players, and fans. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your amazing support and dedication. It has been an honor to represent this club, and I will always cherish our memories together. Manchester United will forever hold a special place in my heart, and I wish for many more glorious days at Old Trafford soon. You all deserve it! All the best and take care, Ruud.”
During his brief stint as interim manager, Van Nistelrooy led United unbeaten, securing three wins and a draw, with the team conceding only three goals while scoring ten. His final match in charge was a convincing 3-0 victory against Leicester City, just before the November international break.
Amorim is set to take the reins officially for United’s away match against Ipswich Town on November 24.
