India is hopeful for an exemption during these ongoing discussions. Both nations are aiming to finalize the initial phase of a trade deal by this fall.<\/p>\n<p>A joint statement from the negotiations indicated that the productive dialogue signifies a commitment to enhance trade and investment ties between India and the U.S., fostering prosperity, security, and innovation for both countries.<\/p>\n<p>In an effort to ease U.S. concerns, India recently announced plans to eliminate a digital advertisement tax. This follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s visit to Washington, where he promised to increase purchases of U.S. energy products and defense equipment. The two nations are working towards achieving a bilateral trade target of $500 billion by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>President Trump has previously labeled India as a &quot;tariff king,&quot; urging the country to lower tariffs on a range of products, including agricultural items, alcoholic beverages, and automobiles, while also seeking improved market access for U.S. companies.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, India&#8217;s trade minister, Piyush Goyal, met with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick in Washington to discuss trade matters further.<\/p>\n<p>Looking ahead, the two sides plan to initiate sector-specific discussions online in the coming weeks, followed by in-person negotiations, as outlined in the joint statement.
