Ambassador Sripriya Ranganathan, along with other top officials, praised the diaspora for their vital role in strengthening India-U.S. economic and diplomatic relations.<\/p>\n<p>The event took place at the consulate&#8217;s expanded office on 71 Stevenson Street, which now spans 25,000 square feet across the 22nd and 23rd floors. This new space features several additional facilities, including a consular office, conference rooms, and community halls designed for both business and cultural activities.<\/p>\n<p>In her speech, Ambassador Ranganathan acknowledged the significant impact the Indian diaspora has on enhancing U.S.-India relations, particularly in areas such as economics, defense, and technology. &quot;We understand the value of collaborating with our community to tap into their knowledge and support,&quot; she stated, emphasizing the consulate&#8217;s commitment to better engage with the community.<\/p>\n<p>Ambassador Ranganathan also expressed her dedication to evolving the services offered by the consulate to better meet the needs of the diaspora. &quot;We continuously strive to modernize our services and build a stronger relationship with our community,&quot; she added.<\/p>\n<p>In her remarks, she mentioned that the consulate is increasing its outreach efforts. &quot;We are connecting with our community more than ever, focusing on education, students, companies, and startups,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n<p>The ambassador also highlighted the importance of the tech sector within the Indian-American community, noting its role in helping Indian Small and Medium Enterprises learn from the U.S. innovation scene. She discussed ongoing efforts to secure investment from the U.S. to address India&#8217;s growing needs.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the U.S.-India trade deal, Ranganathan revealed that discussions are still in progress. &quot;Future negotiations are crucial. Our senior officials will be discussing options in the area of space,&quot; she mentioned, adding that a potential deal may take around six to seven months to finalize.<\/p>\n<p>During her address, Ranganathan spoke of the progress in U.S.-India relations, particularly following Prime Minister Modi&#8217;s recent visit. She shared ambitions for expanding co-development and co-production in defense, referencing the new U.S.-India TRUST initiative\u2014Transforming the Relationship Utilizing Strategic Technology. &quot;Trust is the foundation of our relationship, which we believe will encourage cooperation across not just government, but also academic and private sectors in various fields,&quot; she noted.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, she spoke about the growth in energy trade between the two nations. &quot;What was once a minimal trade relationship is now worth over $20 billion, and that is exciting for both countries,&quot; she remarked.<\/p>\n<p>The ambassador also highlighted the increase in Indian students studying in the U.S. &quot;With over 350,000 Indian students currently enrolled here, up from just 50,000 twenty years ago, we are optimistic about future collaborations between elite Indian and U.S. institutions,&quot; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Strengthening ties among people was another key point in her address. &quot;We are dedicated to enhancing our presence and accessibility to our diaspora across the nation,&quot; she emphasized, mentioning plans to open new consulates in Seattle, Los Angeles, and Boston to better connect with Indian communities.<\/p>\n<p>Consul General Srikar Reddy also addressed the audience, underscoring the need for a larger consular space to accommodate the growing Indian population in California. He stated that approximately 20% of the Indian diaspora in the U.S. lives in California, with around 500,000 residing in the San Francisco Bay Area.<\/p>\n<p>Reddy praised the hard work, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit of the Indian community, pointing out that they contribute significantly to U.S. tax revenues despite representing just 1.5% of the total population.<\/p>\n<p>Khanderao Kand, Founder of GITPRO and Chief of Policy and Strategy at the Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora Studies, spoke about the challenges faced by Indian tech professionals, particularly lengthy green card processes. &quot;These delays create issues, especially for children of immigrants who become illegal once they turn 24,&quot; he highlighted.<\/p>\n<p>Kand also touched on concerns surrounding hate crimes and biases against the community, stressing the need for awareness despite the community\u2019s overall success.
