An Indian man was shot by Border Security Forces (BSF) while trying to return to India from Bangladesh on Tuesday. The man, named Akhtar Jamal Roni, had crossed into Bangladesh to participate in a religious event the day before.<\/p>\n
Reports from the BSF’s Tripura Frontier indicate that Roni was not alone; he was with a woman at the time. The security personnel noticed them nearing the border fence from the Bangladeshi side. Despite being warned several times, they attempted to climb over the fence and got into a scuffle with the guards. Officials said that during this confrontation, they also tried to grab a Pump Action Gun from one of the security officers.<\/p>\n
According to the BSF, the guards acted in self-defense and fired a single shot as per their Standard Operating Procedures. Roni sustained injuries from the gunfire, while the woman managed to escape to a nearby village. He was subsequently taken to GBP Hospital in Agartala for medical treatment.<\/p>\n
Authorities have confirmed that both individuals are residents of Putia village in West Bengal.
