Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced India’s ambition to host the 2036 Olympics, highlighting that such a prestigious event would elevate the country’s sports scene. He made this statement during the opening ceremony of the 38th National Games, which kicked off in Uttarakhand on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The Games commenced with a lively ceremony that showcased the rich cultural and natural heritage of Uttarakhand. Approximately 10,000 athletes are set to compete in 32 different sports until February 14, with the main events taking place in Dehradun, alongside activities in six other cities.<\/p>\n
\u201cSports play a crucial role in the development of our nation. We are dedicated to enhancing your skills and supporting you in every way possible,\u201d PM Modi remarked at the inauguration, which was attended by around 25,000 spectators despite the cool weather. He was joined by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and other notable figures.<\/p>\n
During the ceremony, the Prime Minister received traditional gifts and replicas of the Games’ mascot, ‘Mauli,’ inspired by the state’s beautiful bird, the Monal. This edition of the National Games also marks the 25th anniversary of Uttarakhand.<\/p>\n
While some star athletes like Neeraj Chopra and PV Sindhu are not participating, the spotlight is on emerging talents such as Lakshya Sen, Lovlina Borgohain, and Olympic shooters Swapnil Kusale and Sarabjot Singh. Four sports\u2014kalarippayattu, yogasana, mallakhambh, and rafting\u2014are being featured as demonstration events. This year\u2019s Games carry a “Green Games” theme, focusing on environmentally friendly practices throughout the event.
