Alpena High School Students Help Community with Tech Workshop<\/strong><\/p>\n Alpena, MI \u2014 If you’re having trouble with your technology, Alpena High School students are here to lend a hand. <\/p>\n Older adults often find that asking younger people for help with devices, like smartphones and computers, is the best way to solve their tech dilemmas. The Association of Lifelong Learners (ALL) is making this connection happen through their Tech Workshops at Alpena Community College.<\/p>\n The workshops are run by a group of knowledgeable AHS students who are eager to share their tech skills with anyone in need. If you’ve been struggling with setting up or using an electronic device, you’re welcome to join the next workshop, which will take place today from 3 to 5 p.m. at the M. Briggs Center, room 140, on the Alpena Community College campus.<\/p>\n These sessions are casual and open for anyone to walk in with their devices\u2014be it a phone, laptop, or tablet. The students will do their best to help you overcome any tech frustrations, whether it’s troubleshooting an issue or setting up a new program.<\/p>\n Linda Ferguson, who coordinates the workshop, shared, \u201cThe great conversations happening between the students and older participants are a wonderful bonus. People leave content with the support they receive and are often amazed by the students\u2019 expertise and willingness to help.\u201d<\/p>\n The student volunteers are members of DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America), where they engage in community service while preparing for future careers in various fields like marketing and finance.<\/p>\n \u201cOur Tech Days are fantastic for bringing together different generations,\u201d noted Amanda Pilarski, the DECA adviser. \u201cWorking with the Lifelong Learners has been a rewarding experience for all involved. Our students enjoy taking on the teacher role and realize how meaningful it is to assist others. Just a few minutes of their time can really brighten someone\u2019s day. Every event leaves them excited for the next opportunity to help again.\u201d<\/p>\n The workshops are free, though donations are welcome to help cover the students\u2019 DECA competition costs.
