Trump, who is set to take office on January 20, has expressed a desire to quickly resolve the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, though he has not yet made his plans clear.

Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for Putin, stated that the president is always open to dialogue with global leaders, including Trump. He confirmed that efforts are underway to arrange a meeting. “Trump mentioned that a meeting is being set up,” Peskov told the media.

During a recent gathering with Republican governors at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, Trump emphasized his willingness to meet with Putin. “He wants to meet, and we’re organizing that,” he said. Trump described the conflict as a “bloody mess” that needs to come to an end.

Peskov further highlighted that the Kremlin views Trump’s openness to discussions positively, reiterating that there are no specific conditions for the meeting. “What we need is a mutual desire and the political will to address these issues through dialogue,” he added.

Trump’s optimism regarding a swift resolution has raised concerns in Ukraine. Officials there fear that Trump may push for a peace agreement that would be more favorable to Russia. Since the Russian invasion began in February 2022, the United States has provided significant aid to Ukraine, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky noting that such support has been crucial for Ukraine’s resistance.

Zelensky is advocating for a robust “peace-through-strength” strategy, which includes seeking NATO protections and solid security guarantees from the West as part of any peace negotiations.

However, Ukrainian officials are skeptical about Trump’s proposed meeting with Putin. Georgiy Tykhy, a spokesperson for Ukraine’s foreign ministry, expressed doubts, stating, “Trump has previously discussed such meetings, so we don’t see anything new here.” He emphasized Ukraine’s desire for a fair resolution to the conflict and noted that discussions between Kyiv and Washington are anticipated soon after Trump’s inauguration, possibly involving a dialogue between Trump and Zelensky.

Kremlin Open to Talks with Trump as Inauguration Approaches Moscow has announced that President Vladimir Putin is ready to engage in discussions with Donald Trump, following Trump’s remarks about potential meetings between the two leaders.
