The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not yet revealed the new list of central contracts for players, more than two months after the previous contracts expired on July 31. There has been confusion surrounding whether this list will be made public, with differing statements from PCB officials. While one senior official mentioned that there\u2019s no obligation to release the names, another later assured that the list would be shared eventually.<\/p>\n
This lack of communication has led to a lot of speculation, with insiders expressing doubt about whether the contracts have even been finalized or signed. The new contracts are generating interest because of a change in the PCB’s policy. Instead of offering traditional multi-format contracts, it seems players may now receive contracts specific to the format they play, like Test matches or T20 games only.<\/p>\n
Historically, the PCB has been quick to share the full contract list and the different categories with the media. This current delay indicates potential disagreements, especially since players are reportedly concerned about being limited to just one format, as no one wants to feel confined.<\/p>\n
This situation is not new, as there were delays in announcing central contracts earlier in 2023. Those hold-ups were also due to lengthy discussions between senior players and the former PCB chairman, Zaka Ashraf, over financial matters and contract terms in light of the upcoming World Cup in India. Eventually, the contracts were revealed, but it remains to be seen how this situation will unfold.
