Our talented colleagues in Technology Services are crucial in providing and supporting the tech that drives justice services within the Ministry of Justice. Their work ranges from managing networks and cyber security to handling identity management and automation, ensuring that these essential services are secure, reliable, and available.<\/p>\n The strength of our team lies in its diversity. We\u2019re dedicated to fostering an environment that allows everyone to grow, learn, and succeed. For many women in Technology Services, this commitment has translated into fulfilling careers, leadership roles, and contributions that influence the future of technology in government.<\/p>\n To highlight their inspiring journeys, we spoke with four remarkable women in Technology Services about their paths, motivations, and advice for others thinking about a career in tech.<\/p>\n Innovation in Network Automation<\/strong><\/p>\n Aafreen Ansari\u2019s journey into technology began with a love for software engineering. After earning her Computer Science degree and a master\u2019s in Software Engineering, she spent years in software development\u2014doing what she loved most: coding. When an opportunity arose in the Networks Team, she took the plunge into a new tech area but found her software background gave her an edge. <\/p>\n Currently, Aafreen helps direct network automation projects and examines how emerging tools and cloud technology can enhance service design and delivery. She finds the most fulfillment in mentoring others and watching them grow. She says, \u201cThe best part of my job is witnessing positive changes in both the services we provide and the confidence of the engineers I work with.\u201d Her top tip? “Don\u2019t wait until you feel absolutely ready. Sometimes the next opportunity is what prepares you.”<\/p>\n Diverse Paths to Technology<\/strong><\/p>\n Eleanor Thorne’s entry into technology was not conventional, as she initially studied Sports Science and worked as a personal trainer before shifting to sales. Her journey took a pivotal turn when she joined a tech startup, where she began to embrace Agile work methods that steered her toward Product Ownership and eventually technology delivery.<\/p>\n Now, as the Interim Service Owner for Identity and Access Management, Eleanor ensures that the right individuals have timely access to necessary systems while balancing user needs and security. She emphasizes that many assumptions about tech careers are inaccurate. “People often think tech is just about finding the right answer, but being creative and solving problems is equally vital.” Her message is clear: past experiences in other fields can be beneficial in tech careers.<\/p>\n From Courtroom to Tech Leadership<\/strong><\/p>\n Michelle Peachey didn\u2019t start her career in tech. She began as an usher in the Court Service, gathering firsthand knowledge of the justice system and the challenges it faces. She transitioned into technology through the Digital Infrastructure Supplier Contract (DISC) program, realizing that her skills in business and supplier management were hugely beneficial.<\/p>\n Over the years, she gained expertise in networks and operations, eventually stepping into senior leadership as the Head of Network Operations, where she ensures the network services are robust and secure. To her, success isn\u2019t solely about technology; it\u2019s about understanding people and their needs. \u201cNever hesitate to try something new,\u201d she advises.<\/p>\n Navigating Cyber Security<\/strong><\/p>\n Chantelle MacRae\u2019s career has spanned various fields, including records management, digital forensics, and cyber security leadership. Starting in 2004, she embraced many learning opportunities, leading her to discover her passion for digital forensics. She has risen from a Junior Digital Forensic Analyst to head roles in security leadership.<\/p>\n Chantelle currently leads teams in the Security Operations Centre, focusing on identifying and addressing cyber threats to critical public services. She emphasizes that success relies on more than just technical skills; traits like curiosity and communication are also vital. “Helping others build confidence is the most rewarding aspect of my job,” she shares. Her advice? “Always ask questions, as no one achieves success alone.”<\/p>\n Empowering Women in Tech<\/strong><\/p>\n These incredible women, despite taking various paths, share common themes in their careers: curiosity, resilience, and the thirst for continuous learning.
