India Marks 12 Years of ‘Make in India’ Initiative, Aiming for Global Manufacturing Leadership<\/strong><\/p>\n New Delhi, September 25 (ANI) \u2013 India is evolving from a nation focused mainly on producing goods for its own market to one capable of delivering high-quality products for customers around the world, stated Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday, as the ‘Make in India’ initiative celebrates its 12th anniversary.<\/p>\n Goyal highlighted that the initiative, which began in 2014, was set up not just to lessen India\u2019s reliance on imported goods but to create a robust economy that can manufacture items for global consumers effectively.<\/p>\n Reflecting on the early days of the initiative, Goyal noted that there were many discussions about India\u2019s manufacturing capabilities during a time when the country relied heavily on imports. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a vision for India, where domestically made products gain an international reputation for their excellence under the \u2018Made in India\u2019 label.<\/p>\n \u201cThe true story of Make in India is not just about numbers. It’s about the belief it has fostered among startups, entrepreneurs, manufacturers, and our citizens that ‘India can create, India can innovate, and India can compete on a global stage’,” Goyal expressed in a social media update.<\/p>\n According to Goyal, the country achieved its highest-ever foreign direct investment (FDI) of USD 94.53 billion in the fiscal year 2025-26. The total FDI during the period from FY 2014-15 to FY 2025-26 reached USD 843 billion.<\/p>\n He also discussed the importance of Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes, which have played a vital role in enhancing manufacturing capabilities in significant sectors. As of March 31, 2026, these schemes had attracted Rs 2.40 lakh crore in actual investments, resulting in Rs 23.8 lakh crore in production and sales as well as an increase of Rs 15.2 lakh crore in exports, all while creating over 14.6 lakh jobs, both direct and indirect.<\/p>\n Goyal emphasized the ongoing development of new smart industrial cities through the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme, alongside reforms aimed at simplifying business regulations and reducing compliance burdens.<\/p>\n He also mentioned the growth of the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), which has been instrumental in supporting small businesses, with over 470 crore orders processed through the platform.<\/p>\n Looking ahead, Goyal promised that the next phase of the ‘Make in India’ journey would strive for an even broader global reach, with aspirations for India to emerge as a leading global manufacturing hub.<\/p>\n \u201cCelebrating 12 years of Make in India is not merely a milestone.
