In March 2026, the community lost a 17-year-old boy, Brody Matteson, who passed away from complications related to Ewing sarcoma. His death led to more families in Ladera Ranch speaking out about similar rare cancer cases they had encountered.<\/p>\n
Many locals, including Brody’s father, Dustin Matteson, have raised questions about whether the cancers might be associated with the use of herbicides and pesticides in the area, which has led to demands for a broader environmental investigation.
