In New Delhi, rescue teams successfully saved at least a dozen individuals from the wreckage of a building that collapsed, as operations wrapped up on Monday. This tragic event occurred a day after seven people lost their lives when the five-storey structure fell apart.<\/p>\n
The Delhi police announced that the rescue efforts had concluded, stating, “The rescue operations have been completed by the agencies.” <\/p>\n
According to the National Disaster Response Force, a total of 12 people were rescued, but sadly, six of them had already passed away. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences later reported that one additional survivor did not survive after being taken to the hospital. Currently, three people are in critical condition, as confirmed by the police.<\/p>\n
Rescue crews, including teams from disaster agencies, firefighters, and police, utilized heavy machinery and sniffer dogs to find those trapped under the rubble.<\/p>\n
The collapsed building was located in the Satya Niketan area, a place where many university students reside in cramped living conditions. Building collapses are not uncommon in India, often due to illegal constructions.<\/p>\n
Following the incident, the building’s owner has been arrested, and several municipal officials have faced suspension, according to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. She emphasized the seriousness with which the government is treating this matter, stating on social media that “anyone found guilty or responsible will not be spared.”<\/p>\n
Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the situation as “distressing,” highlighting the broader concerns surrounding safety in urban areas.
