A tragic incident occurred in Delhi’s Mehram Nagar on Tuesday when a 48-year-old woman named Jaiwanti was struck and killed by a speeding BMW while crossing the road. Local residents and Jaiwanti’s family reacted with anger, blocking the road in protest.<\/p>\n
Authorities reported that the accident took place around noon as she was using a zebra crossing on her way to lunch. The collision was so intense that she died instantly at the scene. Police have arrested the driver, identified as 38-year-old Deepak, who lives in Pratap Nagar, Mandoli.<\/p>\n
Officials have registered a case against him, and further investigations are underway. <\/p>\n
### Locals Protest<\/p>\n
Following the accident, local villagers gathered to protest, leading to significant traffic disruptions. Heavy police presence, including paramilitary forces, was deployed to maintain order.<\/p>\n
Traffic near Terminal-3 (T-3) of the Indira Gandhi International Airport was heavily affected as locals blocked a portion of the road. The Delhi Traffic Police noted that the stretch from the NSG Red Light to T-3 was closed due to the protest, prompting alternate routes for commuters.<\/p>\n
Those traveling from Mahipalpur to T-3 were advised to use the alternate route via NH-48. Additionally, traffic coming from T-3 towards T-1, Dhaula Kuan, and Mahipalpur was redirected. Personnel were stationed at diversion points to help manage the situation and assist drivers.
