Government Extends Terms of Cabinet Secretary and Home Secretary<\/strong><\/p>\n In a significant decision, the government has granted a one-year extension to Cabinet Secretary T.V. Somanathan and Home Secretary Govind Mohan. This is the first time both officials have received an extension in their roles. Their original two-year terms were set to expire this month.<\/p>\n According to an official order, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved Somanathan’s extension as Cabinet Secretary for an additional year, lasting until August 30, 2026. T.V. Somanathan, who is a 1987-batch IAS officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre, took on the role in August 2024. <\/p>\n Similarly, Govind Mohan’s tenure will now extend until August 22, 2027.
