This property has been in his family since 1849, when his great-great-grandfather purchased it.<\/p>\n<p>At 75 years old, Herrenbruck is on his 57th crop cycle, expressing a deep love for farming. \u201cI\u2019ve never hated what I do,\u201d he said, proudly reflecting on his life\u2019s work.<\/p>\n<p>Together with his son-in-law, Jason Naab, Herrenbruck cultivates vast fields of corn, wheat, and soybeans. \u201cWe\u2019ve spent our lives here; it\u2019s all we know,\u201d Naab shared, emphasizing the area&#8217;s strong agricultural roots.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, a prominent tech company sought to acquire their land for a new data center. However, Herrenbruck firmly rejected the offer, stating, \u201cThere\u2019s not enough money in the world to buy my farmland that\u2019s been here for 175 years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite their rejection, the company has continued to send surveyors and contractors to the area, leaving the farmers feeling anxious and uncertain about their future. \u201cWe don\u2019t feel free anymore,\u201d Naab said. \u201cIt feels like we\u2019re not in control of our destiny.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The farmers are concerned that a data center would threaten their livelihoods. \u201cYou can\u2019t grow crops here if it becomes a desert,\u201d Herrenbruck warned, highlighting the potential devaluation of surrounding properties.<\/p>\n<p>Water is another pressing issue, as the county relies on well water that could be depleted by a massive facility. \u201cThey\u2019ll take away our ability to grow food for everyone,\u201d Naab added, indicating the broader implications for the community.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, the farmers worry about the environmental impact of such a development, like increased noise and light pollution, which would disrupt their peaceful way of life. \u201cIt\u2019s quiet here.
