On Tuesday, India firmly dismissed Pakistan’s efforts to connect with the Indus Valley Civilization (IVC). During a press briefing, Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, stated that a country known for promoting terrorism and violence, particularly against its minorities, cannot rightfully claim a diverse cultural heritage.<\/p>\n
These comments were made in response to Pakistan’s recent references to the ancient civilization. Jaiswal emphasized, “A country that has a long history of cross-border terrorism and religious violence cannot claim any pluralistic cultural legacy. Their poor record on protecting minorities only makes these claims appear more insincere.”<\/p>\n
In a separate statement, Pakistani Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar highlighted the Indus Valley Civilization as vital to Pakistan’s national identity. He stated, “When we consider ourselves as Pakistanis, we look back at our history, and the Indus Valley Civilization represents who we are. I tell my international peers that we descend from the people of the Indus Valley, living along the banks of the River Indus.”<\/p>\n
