This new approach leverages the Bridge Management System (BMS) to keep track of water levels, identify at-risk areas, and manage traffic effectively when it rains heavily.

According to Amit Malviya, a senior public relations officer at NCR, special WhatsApp groups have been set up for assistant divisional engineers (ADENs) to enhance real-time communication. Rainfall data is reported every hour, and geo-tagged photos of affected RUBs are shared promptly. The monitoring team reviews images of all RUBs twice daily to keep an eye on water accumulation.

Through the BMS, real-time updates on waterlogging at each RUB are captured. Once water has been removed from any site, the updated condition is logged to confirm that everything is back to normal. The system classifies water depth: if it’s between 5 cm and 20 cm, it is considered mild waterlogging, and inspections are conducted every two weeks. Water exceeding 20 cm is classified as severe, requiring weekly inspections. If the water level surpasses 50 cm and remains for over six hours, the situation is treated as critical.

In cases where water accumulation exceeds 300 mm (30 cm), the RUB will be temporarily closed to vehicle traffic until it has been completely drained. Additionally, watchmen are stationed at crucial locations to observe conditions and ensure safety. They are trained to identify waterlogging risks and have the authority to close off routes to prevent vehicles from getting stuck in flooded Low Height Subways (LHS).

NCR has also stated that certain drainage channels and culverts are specifically designed for water management and are not intended for public use. There is often confusion because people mistake these structures for RUBs or LHSs. The railway officials are urging the public to recognize the difference between operational transit routes and drainage facilities.

NCR Introduces Tech-Driven Monsoon Management System Prayagraj: The North Central Railway (NCR) has launched an advanced monitoring system to manage waterlogging in its Road Under Bridges (RUBs) during the monsoon season.
