Legionnaires’ Disease Outbreak in NYC Claims Lives<\/strong><\/p>\n The New York City Health Department has reported that for the third consecutive day, another death has been linked to the recent Legionnaires’ disease outbreak in the Upper East Side. In total, three individuals have died as a result of this cluster of cases.<\/p>\n Health Commissioner Dr. Alister Martin expressed condolences, stating, \u201cOur hearts are with their family and friends as they mourn their loss. We respect their privacy and will not share any further details.\u201d<\/p>\n The first two fatalities were recorded on Friday and Saturday. As of Sunday, health officials confirmed 74 cases of Legionnaires’ disease connected to this outbreak. Among those affected, three have died, eight are currently hospitalized, 51 patients have been discharged, and 12 were not hospitalized at all.<\/p>\n Dr. Martin mentioned, \u201cWhile we continue to look into these cases and monitor the hospitalized patients, we haven’t detected any new symptoms for over a week, and we are not seeing any troubling trends in emergency room data.\u201d<\/p>\n Authorities believe the outbreak was likely caused by water vapor containing Legionella bacteria from a cooling tower in the areas with ZIP codes 10028, 10075, and 10128. After conducting tests, they ordered precautionary cleaning for 76 buildings that showed positive results.<\/p>\n \u201cWe will keep checking every cooling tower that tested positive and will hold accountable any owner who does not comply with our public health regulations,\u201d Dr. Martin added.<\/p>\n Residents who experience flu-like symptoms after visiting the affected areas are urged to seek medical attention.
