From now on, these institutions can make their own decisions without needing routine approvals from the NMC.

Previously, many requests regarding faculty eligibility were sent to the NMC, even when the qualifications were already clear under the Medical Institutions (Qualifications of Faculty) Regulations, 2025. These regulations outline what is needed for teaching positions in terms of qualifications, teaching experience, research, and training.

Now, the responsibility for determining if a candidate is qualified will rest solely with the medical institution or university. The Post-Graduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) will no longer handle cases that can be resolved directly according to the existing regulations.

Candidates can approach the NMC directly if their institution does not address their case within 60 days. This move comes after many candidates sought NMC approval for straightforward cases, often due to a perception that NMC eligibility certificates were rarely contested.

To further streamline the process, the NMC has introduced a review mechanism for those unhappy with their institution’s decision. Applicants can request a review within 30 days of the decision. These changes aim to enhance accountability within institutions, cut down on unnecessary referrals, and allow the NMC to concentrate on more complex issues.

Medical Colleges Can Now Handle Faculty Appointments Independently New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced a significant change in how medical colleges will manage faculty appointments and promotions.
