Local businesses experienced a significant boost in their sales, with some reporting their busiest days ever.

Will Perry, owner of the soccer-themed bar Footie on First, remarked on the infectious atmosphere. “It was incredible to see the entire city come out, with so many tourists and fresh faces visiting. The energy for each game was just amazing,” he shared. Perry noted that sales during the tournament soared to three to ten times their usual levels, providing essential support for their business.

“Large events like this really help us navigate through the quieter times and weeks when things can be slow,” he added.

According to the Downtown Seattle Association, Pioneer Square witnessed record-breaking foot traffic during the tournament. On June 19, the neighborhood welcomed about 150,000 visitors—its highest daily count since records started in 2019. This record was shattered just weeks later, on July 6, when the area saw over 163,000 visitors in one day. This count doesn’t even include the many international fans who came to Seattle for the matches.

While the tournament brought a surge of visitors, community leaders emphasize the importance of keeping that momentum going. “There’s definitely more foot traffic during the busy summer season, but the winter months can slow down as people settle back at home,” explained Angela Nguyen, marketing manager for the Alliance for Pioneer Square.

The focus now is on encouraging those who visited during the tournament to return. Nguyen believes, “The real challenge is providing chances for people to come back and enjoy the neighborhood, whether it’s a weekend or weekday.”

As the excitement of the World Cup begins to fade, businesses and community leaders are optimistic that this economic uplift marks just the start.
