In a stunning display of batting, Jos Buttler and Harry Brook led England to a record-setting total against India during the fifth and final T20I at Southampton. After being asked to bat first, the duo put on an impressive 233-run partnership for the first wicket, guiding England to a massive score of 257\/3.<\/p>\n
While Arshdeep Singh managed to keep things somewhat in check, other Indian bowlers struggled, leaving the team searching for answers. Brook was the aggressor at first, scoring his fifty in just 19 balls, but it was Buttler who took center stage later in the innings.<\/p>\n
The former England captain shone brightly, reaching his century off just 51 balls. This partnership became the highest opening partnership for England in T20Is and the second-highest overall among Full Member nations, falling just short of Afghanistan’s 236-run record.<\/p>\n
England’s score of 257\/3 is now their third-highest in T20I history, following their total of 304\/2 against South Africa and 267\/3 against the West Indies.<\/p>\n
Harry Brook finished the match with an impressive 95 not out off 45 balls and emerged as England’s top run-scorer for the series, amassing 229 runs at an average of 114.50. Buttler contributed significantly as well, ending with 175 runs after a slower start in the series.<\/p>\n
Indian bowler Prince Yadav faced the brunt of the onslaught, conceding 60 runs in his four overs. Shivam Dube also struggled, giving away 22 runs in just one over but took the wickets of Buttler and Jacob Bethell. Axar Patel was equally costly, leaking 63 runs without claiming a wicket.<\/p>\n
This match not only added to India’s pain, having already lost the series, but it also jeopardized their position at the top of the ICC T20I rankings.<\/p>\n
