Abhijeet Dipke, a 30-year-old engineering graduate, never intended to lead a student movement. However, remarks made by India’s Chief Justice, who controversially compared young critics of the government to “cockroaches” and “parasites,” have ignited significant reactions.<\/p>\n
Dipke, who was in search of a job in the United States at the time, expressed his shock at these comments, which the Chief Justice later claimed were misinterpreted. Despite India’s rapid economic growth, countless young people still face difficulties in finding stable and well-paying jobs, leading to widespread dissatisfaction.<\/p>\n
\u201cHow could someone who protects the constitution compare youth to cockroaches simply for sharing their opinions?\u201d Dipke shared with reporters.<\/p>\n
In May, he took to social media to express his frustrations, crafting a satirical post that read: “What if all cockroaches come together?” This post resonated widely, leading him to create a parody platform called the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a play on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).<\/p>\n
To his surprise, the CJP attracted around 5,000 sign-ups within two hours. \u201cIn no time, we decided to launch an official website and manifesto,\u201d Dipke noted. Within just 24 hours of its launch, the movement had garnered over 30,000 followers.<\/p>\n
As of now, the CJP boasts more than 22 million followers on Instagram, surpassing the BJP\u2019s following by 13 million. \u201cThat moment showed me that the youth wants to voice their concerns,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n
The movement, largely driven by Gen Z students, reflects a growing frustration with traditional political parties. Many young people feel unheard and believe their issues have been neglected over the years. \u201cThis isn’t just a social media trend; it\u2019s real frustration,\u201d Dipke explained.<\/p>\n
What began as online commentary has quickly moved to the streets, with protests organized in various cities. Dipke returned from the US in early June and has been actively participating in ongoing demonstrations at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.<\/p>\n
The CJP’s primary demand is the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who they hold responsible for failures within the education system, especially related to medical entrance exams. Issues such as exam paper leaks have drawn significant attention and are rallying points for the movement.<\/p>\n
Anjali, a 25-year-old student from Delhi University, reflected on the evolution of the protests, noting, \u201cIt began as a social media joke, but it\u2019s now a movement fueled by years of anger.\u201d <\/p>\n
Notable figures like climate activist Sonam Wangchuk have also joined the protests. Wangchuk began a hunger strike in support of the movement, stating, \u201cWe must speak out. I hope the government listens.\u201d<\/p>\n
While Dipke has experience with the opposition Aam Aadmi Party, he insists that he does not aim to transform the movement into a political party. \u201cCreating a political party doesn\u2019t make sense when elections feel predetermined,\u201d he pointed out.<\/p>\n
