It applied even if those companies had no physical presence in India. However, last year, changes in the Finance Bill eliminated this tax, effective April 1, 2025. Officials indicated that the decision aimed to ease trade tensions with the US.<\/p>\n India had also removed a 2% Equalisation Levy on non-resident e-commerce operators in the Finance Act, 2024.<\/p>\n The primary victims of this tariff threat would likely be European Union (EU) nations.
