According to reports from local officials, the economic activity stemming from Meta’s $10 billion Hyperion data center project has led to a significant surge in sales tax collections. The Richland Parish School Board announced an impressive increase in teacher bonuses, soaring from a maximum of $10,200 last year to up to $50,935 this year. In some cases, these bonuses may even surpass a teacher’s annual salary.<\/p>\n
This windfall comes from a law established in 1968 that allows the school board to collect a 1% sales tax specifically for teacher bonuses. Recent statistics from the Northwest Louisiana Finance Authority indicate that the parish has collected $42.9 million in sales taxes during the first nine months of the fiscal year\u2014more than double the amount from the previous year.
