Emergency crews swiftly arrived at the beach following calls that a swimmer had been bitten. The woman was rescued from the water by bystanders who began providing first aid before she was airlifted to a hospital for medical care.<\/p>\n
Authorities reported that she sustained serious injuries to her arm and leg. In response to the attack, Coogee Beach and two nearby beaches were closed to the public.<\/p>\n
This incident is part of a troubling increase in shark attacks in Australia. Just days ago, a 35-year-old fisherman was killed by a suspected shark measuring nearly 15 feet while he was spearfishing near Michaelmas Island. Earlier last month, another fisherman, 39-year-old Michael Jensz, also lost his life to a suspected bull shark attack at the Great Barrier Reef.<\/p>\n
