The new SiC chips provide better performance, allowing electric vehicle manufacturers to enhance efficiency, increase driving range, and improve battery use.

As India’s electric vehicle market grows from initial adoption to widespread deployment, manufacturers are looking for technologies that boost performance while lowering ownership costs. Bosch’s new SiC semiconductors aim to meet these needs by enhancing energy conversion within electric powertrains.

SiC semiconductors are vital for power electronics, especially in vehicle inverters that control energy transfer between the battery and the motor. By minimizing energy loss and boosting power management, this technology helps vehicles travel further without needing larger batteries, thus offering better efficiency and reduced operating costs.

This latest generation of SiC chips boasts about 20% more performance than previous versions. Bosch views this enhancement as a way for manufacturers to create more efficient electric vehicles while keeping them affordable for a wider customer base.

Sandeep Nelamangala, Joint Managing Director of Bosch Limited and President of Bosch Mobility India, emphasized that the new technology is designed to provide the practical benefits that consumers want, such as improvements in driving range and charging efficiency. He highlighted the importance of these advancements in speeding up the adoption of electric vehicles in India.

With extensive global experience in semiconductor development, Bosch has already shipped over 60 million SiC chips worldwide and is actively investing to boost its semiconductor production capabilities. This investment is intended to foster innovation, strengthen the supply chain, and prepare for future mobility needs.

Markus Heyn, a member of Bosch’s Board of Management, stated that the company aims to cement its position as a leading supplier of SiC semiconductors globally. He mentioned that the newest chips enable the creation of more efficient and higher-performing electric vehicles.

Additionally, this technology allows for more compact designs in power electronics by cutting down heat generation, decreasing cooling needs, and simplifying system architecture. These advantages lead to lower manufacturing costs and improved scalability, making advanced electronics more attainable for both top-end and mass-market vehicles.

With this latest introduction of SiC technology, Bosch supports India’s goals for sustainable mobility and advanced manufacturing, contributing to a more efficient electric vehicle industry. Since its arrival in India in 1951, Bosch has been a key player in various sectors, including mobility and energy solutions. Its extensive network of manufacturing and development facilities continues to drive progress in next-generation mobility and technology solutions in the region.

Bosch Unveils Next-Generation Silicon Carbide Technology in India Bosch has launched its third-generation Silicon Carbide (SiC) semiconductor technology in India, reinforcing its dedication to promoting electric mobility within the nation’s growing auto industry.
