This new venture emerges from a strategic partnership with Culturewell Trading LLP and its subsidiary, Culturewell Hemp Pvt. Ltd., aimed at launching India’s first comprehensive hemp fiber-to-yarn supply chain.

The collaboration between these companies will establish a solid framework to convert Panda Biotech’s hemp into finished yarn. This includes new facilities for degumming and spinning, which were previously lacking in India. With Culturewell’s market know-how and distribution network, the goal is to promote the use of high-quality hemp materials throughout the Indian textile sector.

Rajesh Raizada, CEO of Culturewell, shared, “Our partnership with Panda Biotech goes beyond just a supply agreement; it lays the groundwork for a new industrial approach to hemp in India. Customers here are looking for hemp yarn, not just fiber, and we are excited to provide them with American-grown hemp, processed and ready for use. We take pride in delivering top-quality, traceable hemp products to India and building a sustainable supply chain.”

One of the advantages mentioned by the companies is that U.S.-grown hemp fiber processed in India could qualify for duty benefits on exports back to the U.S., potentially giving them a competitive edge in pricing.

The products available through this partnership include textile-grade hemp fiber that is mechanically processed, allowing it to be blended with cotton or other fibers and crafted into yarn. Panda Biotech noted that mills have successfully produced yarns ranging from 6s to 30s, suitable for various applications. The hemp fiber can also be utilized in non-woven products like insulation panels and carpet backing.

Additionally, there will be degummed fibers suitable for lightweight fabrics and yarns made from 20-100% hemp. Each product is certified by the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 and USDA BioPreferred, ensuring quality.

India presents a significant opportunity for Panda Biotech, with a growing demand for traceable and sustainable materials. The company noted that Indian mills are actively seeking reliable partners for hemp fiber to ensure consistent quality in their products.

Panda Biotech made its mark in India at the Yarns & Fibers Expo in Mumbai last April, where their hemp fiber products captured the attention of textile manufacturers and apparel brands. There was notable interest in degummed hemp fiber and yarn, particularly in blends of up to 100% hemp.

Dixie Carter, president of Panda Biotech, emphasized the strategic importance of India in the global textile market. She stated, “Indian mills are in search of high-quality natural fibers that can stand up to global standards in terms of consistency and price. With Culturewell as our trusted partner, we’re optimistic about accelerating the adoption of American-grown hemp in India.”

Panda Biotech Launches Hemp Initiative in India Panda Biotech, based in Dallas, is set to make waves in India’s textile industry by introducing its certified U.S.-grown hemp.
