Miami-Dade County Public Schools Launches Innovative Learning Space at Ponce de Leon Middle School<\/strong><\/p>\n Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) has introduced a newly revamped innovation space at Ponce de Leon Middle School, aiming to change the way students learn and collaborate.<\/p>\n The newly designed area features an open layout, interactive flooring, and versatile seating options, all aimed at combining traditional learning with hands-on technology experiences.<\/p>\n Principal Angela C. Gonzalez emphasized that this innovative space encourages students to be more involved in their education. “We want to create an environment where kids enjoy learning, reading, and connecting with their teachers and classmates,” she said, noting that it has also renewed students’ interest in reading.<\/p>\n This innovation area includes various sections for arts and crafts, board games, and technology-based activities. The interactive floor allows students to engage in educational games that require movement. The redesigned media center also boasts flexible seating arrangements and workspaces that can be adapted for classes, group projects, or self-study.<\/p>\n Eighth-grader Leylani Berlanga shared her excitement about the new space, calling it both engaging and comfortable. “We get to do a lot more hands-on learning,” she said. “It\u2019s a nice environment because it\u2019s bright and cozy. I love the colors, the couches, and the games, and I can’t wait to enjoy this place with my friends.”<\/p>\n The area also features new shelving for books and tables that can be easily stored, allowing for a multifunctional space.<\/p>\n The opening ceremony for the revamped space brought together school leadership and local community partners, including Assistant Superintendent Daniel Mateo, School Board Chair Mari Tere Rojas, and Britton Banowsky from the College Football Playoff Foundation.<\/p>\n Parents have warmly welcomed the changes. Roxana Rassi, president of the Parent Teacher Student Association, remarked, “This new space is a big upgrade from the old media center. It\u2019s modern and inviting for both kids and teachers to organize classes and events.”<\/p>\n The revamped innovation space will also support various school clubs, including drama and robotics, encouraging students to explore their interests.<\/p>\n This initiative is part of a larger plan to create 18 similar innovation spaces across middle schools over the next two years.
