These calls can range from family disputes and traffic accidents to serious incidents like shootings and medical emergencies.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen you hear \u2018gun,\u2019 your ears perk up,\u201d Mendelson noted, highlighting the urgency that comes with certain calls.<\/p>\n Darrian Clark, a dispatcher with over a decade of experience, shared that the job requires patience and focus. \u201cEvery day is unpredictable,\u201d he explained. \u201cOne moment we could be calm, and the next, we could receive a call about a shooting or a house fire.\u201d<\/p>\n Ben Mackenzie, another experienced dispatcher, emphasized that their role encompasses much more than just answering calls. \u201cWe coordinate responses for the police and fire departments.
