Yuvraj Singh recently shared details about one of the toughest times in his life, revealing how he battled cancer while still playing for India. <\/p>\n
At the peak of his career, Yuvraj was instrumental in India\u2019s 2011 World Cup victory. However, during that tournament, he faced intense fatigue, nausea, and constant discomfort. Unfortunately, these health issues went unnoticed at the time, and he pushed himself, driven by the pressures of international cricket.<\/p>\n
After the World Cup, his health took a serious turn, and tests confirmed he had a rare form of cancer with a tumor in his chest. What should have been a celebratory time in his career quickly became a fight for his life.<\/p>\n
In a conversation with Michael Vaughan on The Overlap podcast, Yuvraj expressed how challenging it was to accept his condition. \u201cAs a sportsman, you\u2019re not supposed to be sick. You\u2019re meant to represent your country. But I kept getting worse while still playing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He discussed how athletes are trained to ignore such signals from their bodies. \u201cAs sportsmen, we don\u2019t consider the possibility of being unwell. Our focus is on playing for India,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The gravity of his health situation hit home when doctors laid it out clearly. He recalled, \u201cThe doctor told me that the tumor was between my heart and lung, and it posed a severe risk. I was warned that without chemotherapy, I might only have a few months left.\u201d<\/p>\n
This shocking revelation forced him to reevaluate his situation. \u201cI knew I had to think carefully about my next steps. It was tough because I run a foundation dedicated to cancer awareness, and here I was struggling to accept my own reality,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
Yuvraj sought treatment in the United States, undergoing chemotherapy from 2011 to 2012. This period was incredibly draining physically and mentally, but it also gave him a fresh outlook on life.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt took me almost a year to accept that I might never play cricket again. Yet, once my treatment was finished, I was determined to make a comeback, even if others doubted me,\u201d he shared.<\/p>\n
Yuvraj\u2019s journey remains one of the most inspiring comeback stories in cricket history.
