Ryan Williams made a stunning impact on his debut as India defeated Hong Kong, China 2-1 in Kochi on Tuesday, March 31. Williams scored just four minutes into the match, marking the fastest debut goal in the history of the Indian men’s national football team.<\/p>\n
Alongside Williams, Akash Mishra scored in the second half, marking his first goal for the senior team. Hong Kong managed to narrow the gap in the 65th minute with a goal from Everton Camarago, but India held their ground to secure a victory, their first win in Kochi.<\/p>\n
Although India was already out of the running for the Asian Cup, they finished their qualifiers with five points, having secured one win and two draws. After losing 1-0 to Hong Kong in their previous encounter, the team aimed to bring some joy to the fans in Kochi, and Williams delivered.<\/p>\n
The new number 10 found the net after a precise setup from Manvir Singh. Williams joined the squad following FIFA’s approval for him to switch associations, making this his first international appearance.<\/p>\n
The attacking lineup of Williams, Manvir, Lallianzuala Chhangte, and Liston Colaco consistently put pressure on the Hong Kong defense, while Anwar Ali and Apuia managed the midfield well under pressure.<\/p>\n
