The gathering, part of Trinity Health System&#8217;s second annual Crimson Connections For Your Heart Event, also aimed to raise awareness about heart health for women.<\/p>\n<p>This year, the event successfully raised $25,000 through sponsorships and a series of drawings, which will go towards purchasing new cardiology equipment for the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>One of the evening\u2019s highlights was the recognition of Annie Campbell Johnston as the 2023 Crimson Connections Champion. Johnston, co-owner of M&amp;M True Value Hardware, was chosen from five nominees after nearly 1,000 votes were submitted in an online poll.<\/p>\n<p>Laurie Labishak, the market director for Trinity Health System, shared that Johnston is an active member of First Westminster Church, a supporter of the Friendship Room, and a founder of the Badge Buddies program. This initiative pairs children at Pugliese Elementary East with local law enforcement officers for monthly activities.<\/p>\n<p>Accepting her award alongside her daughter Paisley, Johnston emphasized, \u201cI don\u2019t do what I do to be in the spotlight. I think we need more good in the world.\u201d She expressed gratitude for her husband Chad and her family and friends for their support.<\/p>\n<p>The other nominees included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Sydney Cain<\/strong>: An EMT who has established a mentoring group for those battling addiction.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lisa Kush<\/strong>: A clinical specialist who raises awareness about health issues through social media.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dana Meadows<\/strong>: A nurse practitioner known for her exceptional care for patients.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rebekah Cohen Morris<\/strong>: The founder of Mother of Mercy Maternity Home, which supports pregnant women in crisis.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Labishak highlighted the importance of community connections for health, encouraging women to communicate openly with their doctors about any concerns. She urged attendees, \u201cKnow your body and inform your doctors if something doesn\u2019t feel right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Healthcare staff offered blood pressure screenings and wellness information at the event, which also included chair massages and a beauty boutique supported by local businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Lisa Kush, during her remarks, pointed out that symptoms of heart disease in women can differ from those in men. Subtle signs may include jaw pain, nausea, and shortness of breath. She encouraged women to prioritize self-care, saying, \u201cWomen are often nine times more likely to delay treatment.
