This means better collection of revenue and ensuring that public money is used for important projects like infrastructure and education.

The second area focuses on creating more opportunities for private businesses. By making the business environment more friendly and encouraging new ideas, companies can grow, which in turn helps create more jobs.

The third area is all about developing the workforce. The government plans to enhance education and vocational training programs to ensure that workers have the skills needed for better-paying jobs in the market.

Zafer Mustafaoğlu, the World Bank Division Director for the Philippines, Malaysia, and Brunei, stated that this initiative is designed to turn economic growth into real job opportunities. He emphasized that improving fiscal management, the business climate, and investing in people’s skills will attract private investments and help individuals find and keep good jobs.

In addition to the policy loan, the Philippines has also secured $4.13 million in grants from the World Bank’s Grant Facility for Project Preparation (GFPP). These funds are intended to expedite the development of priority government projects.

The grants will cover essential preparatory work like feasibility studies, engineering designs, and building the skills of institutions—ensuring that projects are ready for implementation without delays.

Three specific projects have been approved for funding. The Department of Agriculture will receive $1.21 million for its project aimed at improving access to finance for small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and helping rural communities prepare for climate-related challenges.

Another $1.21 million grant will support the Department of Trade and Industry’s initiative to boost competitiveness among small and medium enterprises and help them reach larger markets.

Finally, the Department of Information and Communications Technology will get $1.71 million to prepare for the second phase of its Digital Infrastructure Project. This project aims to expand broadband access in underserved areas, including parts of Western Mindanao and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region.

Government officials believe that these grants will help projects move quickly from planning to execution, allowing communities to see benefits sooner.

Strengthening Economic Growth in the Philippines The government of the Philippines is launching a new initiative to boost economic growth by focusing on three key areas.
