In a recent update, the zoo shared details of its careful strategy to help Punch gain acceptance within the troop. This included allowing him to grow familiar with the group and pairing him with a gentle female macaque to help build his confidence before his full release.<\/p>\n
Recent footage captured by an observer showed Punch seeking contact, not from his stuffed toy, but from another monkey. He even climbed onto the back of this friend, engaging in playful behaviors that are crucial for young macaques.<\/p>\n
While Punch still keeps his plush toy close during tense moments, the zookeepers remain hopeful for his future. They recall a successful case from 2009 involving another hand-reared macaque named Otome, who eventually adapted well and became a mother herself.<\/p>\n
