The Kerala High Court has taken a significant step by issuing a notice to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the producers of “The Kerala Story 2 \u2013 Goes Beyond.” This action comes after a petition was filed requesting the cancellation of the film’s certification and a halt to its release.<\/p>\n
The petition, presented by Sreedev Namboodiri from Kannur, claims that the sequel unfairly portrays Kerala and may stir up communal tensions. Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas presided over the hearing and instructed both the CBFC and the producer, Sunshine Pictures, to respond. A follow-up hearing is set for February 24.<\/p>\n
“The Kerala Story 2 \u2013 Goes Beyond” follows the controversial first film that depicted women from Kerala allegedly recruited by ISIS. Namboodiri’s petition questions the CBFC’s decision, suggesting it didn\u2019t fully assess the film’s potential impact on public order and morality, as required by the Cinematograph Act.<\/p>\n
Concerns were raised regarding the film’s teaser and trailer, particularly a line suggesting a call to action, which Namboodiri argues could lead to violence. He also pointed out that while the promotional content includes women from various states, it still emphasizes the connection to Kerala, which he believes unfairly associates the region with terrorism and forced conversions.<\/p>\n
The petition asks the court to revoke the film’s certification, delay its release, or require changes such as reconsidering its title and adding disclaimers to prevent regional defamation.
