No Problem!’

X Platform Heightens Spam and Automation Detection

Elon Musk’s social media platform, X (previously known as Twitter), has announced new measures to detect spam and automation. This update was shared by Nikita Bier, the Product Head at X, who cautioned developers against using artificial intelligence to scrape data from the site.

Bier did not provide specific reasons for these stricter measures, but they coincide with the growing presence of autonomous AI and platforms like OpenClaw that utilize such technology.

In a recent post, Bier stated, “We are increasing our detection for automation and spam. If an account is not being operated by a human, it and related accounts may be suspended, even during testing.” He advised developers to refrain from using bots for now, suggesting they use the official API if necessary.

According to Bier, the platform is capable of detecting any automated scraping. He emphasized, “Feel free to use the official API, but any type of automated scraping will be caught.”

Recently, Bier expressed concerns about how emerging technologies like OpenClaw could threaten existing communication platforms, such as Gmail and iMessage. He predicted that these platforms could soon be overwhelmed by spam, making them nearly unusable.

Bier stated, “In just under 90 days, channels once considered safe from spam will become so inundated that they will lose functionality. This includes iMessage, phone calls, and Gmail.”

So, what is OpenClaw? It’s an open-source framework gaining traction alongside Moltbook. OpenClaw allows users to run autonomous AI agents on their devices, connecting with familiar apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, and Discord.

Unlike typical chatbots, which require user commands, OpenClaw agents can perform multiple actions automatically, such as sending messages or controlling web browsers. While designed for productivity, concerns have been raised about its potential to enable widespread spamming. Since these agents operate from a user’s device, they appear to come from legitimate IP addresses, making it harder for platforms to differentiate between real users and AI agents.

X Platform Heightens Spam and Automation Detection Elon Musk’s social media platform, X (previously known as Twitter), has announced new measures to detect spam and automation.
