Dhaka, Bangladesh:<\/strong> The Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Pranay Kumar Verma, had a meeting with Tarique Rahman, the new Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), on Saturday. This meeting occurred just a day after Rahman officially took on the role, following the recent passing of his mother, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.<\/p>\n This meeting is significant as it comes at a time of political change in Bangladesh. Tarique Rahman has stepped into his new role after the leadership position became vacant due to Khaleda Zia’s death on December 30. The political climate has been tense, particularly with rising violence against Hindus in the country after the ousting of Sheikh Hasina in the July 2024 uprising, which led to the establishment of a new interim government led by Muhammad Yunus.<\/p>\n On Friday, the BNP announced Rahman’s new position in a post on social media, stating he was appointed unanimously by the National Standing Committee.
