Speaking publicly for the first time in a week, the 86-year-old leader claimed that a group of “agitated people,” whom he called enemy agents, were inciting unrest among local merchants, chanting anti-government slogans.

Khamenei acknowledged that while protests can be legitimate, he made a distinction between peaceful protest and rioting. He insisted that dialogue with protesters is important, but he criticized the idea of engaging with those he labeled as “rioters,” asserting that they need to be firmly dealt with.

The protests have escalated dramatically, with reports indicating that the Iranian security forces have responded violently. Tragically, at least ten individuals have been reported dead amidst these clashes, according to the U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency. Demonstrations have erupted in over 100 locations across 22 of Iran’s 31 provinces, reflecting deep public discontent.

In Malekshahi, young activists gathered peacefully to voice their concerns but were met with gunfire from security forces, resulting in injuries and fatalities. Protesters in other locations, such as Kazerun, have also faced similar violent responses, with reports of live ammunition being used against them.

Students at various universities have joined in the protests, chanting powerful messages against the regime. In Shahrood, students declared they would not accept humiliation, while another group in Tehran called out for an end to dictatorship.

In reaction to Khamenei’s remarks, Maryam Rajavi, a leader of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, stated that the public’s message to Khamenei is clear: it’s time for him to step down. She emphasized that threats and repression will not stifle the people’s fight for democracy.

Reza Pahlavi, the son of Iran’s last monarch, urged military and law enforcement to reconsider their allegiance to the regime, advising them to defend the nation rather than suppress its people. He encouraged citizens to remain active in the streets, highlighting the importance of their resilience and courage in the face of oppression.

As the situation unfolds, many continue to voice their hopes for change in Iran, calling for a future defined by democracy and justice.

Iran’s Ayatollah Responds to Ongoing Protests In a strong address to the nation, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei voiced his anger over the widespread protests against his government, triggered by issues of political and economic corruption.
