This comes after months of military pressure from the U.S. aimed at networks linked to his administration.

In an interview broadcast on state television, Maduro emphasized that Venezuela is “ready” to engage in serious discussions with the U.S. about a potential drug trafficking deal, urging both nations to approach these talks with verified information. He stated, “If the U.S. is serious about discussing an agreement, we are prepared.”

Maduro also mentioned that if the U.S. desires to access Venezuelan oil, they are open to American investments, particularly highlighting Chevron as a key player in this scenario. Currently, Chevron is the only major U.S. company involved in exporting Venezuelan crude oil.

The Venezuelan leader expressed concern that the U.S. aims for a change in government through intimidation and military actions, which have been ongoing since a significant military deployment to the Caribbean in August. Maduro asserted that the U.S. wishes to impose its will through threats.

The interview occurred on New Year’s Eve, coinciding with a U.S. military operation that targeted boats associated with designated terrorist groups involved in drug trafficking, resulting in multiple casualties. Since the U.S. military’s operations began in early September, at least 114 people have lost their lives.

Maduro suggested that the U.S. may be contemplating an expansion of its campaign against Venezuela, which could involve ground operations. While President Trump confirmed a strike aimed at a port connected to drug trafficking, he refrained from disclosing whether it was executed by U.S. military forces or another agency.

As U.S. pressure on Maduro escalates, including a full blockade of oil tankers linked to Venezuela, the situation remains tense. Maduro did not comment on the latest military actions but indicated that he might address the topic in the near future.

Venezuelan President Open to U.S. Negotiations Amid Drug Trafficking Pressure Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced on Thursday that his government is willing to negotiate with the United States regarding an agreement to combat drug trafficking.
