This initiative aims to recognize the courage of civilians and first responders who risked their lives during a recent mass shooting that took place at a Hanukkah celebration, resulting in 15 fatalities.<\/p>\n This tragic event marks Australia’s deadliest shooting incident since 1996 and is being investigated as a possible ISIS-inspired attack against the Jewish community during a significant holiday period.<\/p>\n During a press conference, Albanese expressed the stark contrast between acts of hatred and the kindness shown by those who rushed to help amidst the chaos. He stated, “This Christmas feels different because of the violence motivated by ISIS and antisemitism. Yet, we’ve also witnessed incredible bravery, kindness, and compassion from those who faced danger.”<\/p>\n The award will honor individuals nominated for their heroism under the existing Honors and Awards system in Australia.
