The demonstration, initiated by young people, turned violent in Zocalo Square, where some protesters attacked law enforcement with hammers and chains, leading to the use of tear gas by authorities.<\/p>\n<p>The authorities reported that around 60 police officers sustained minor injuries, with 40 requiring hospitalization. Most of those hospitalized suffered cuts and bruises, but their injuries are not life-threatening.<\/p>\n<p>By Saturday evening, police had detained 20 individuals and referred another 20 for administrative offenses.<\/p>\n<p>This anti-government rally was primarily driven by members of Generation Z, born between the late 1990s and early 2010s. Protesters voiced their concerns over issues like corruption and personal safety.<\/p>\n<p>Arizbeth Garcia, a physician, stressed the need for improved security and better funding for public health, citing fears for her safety and that of her colleagues. Another demonstrator, Rosa Maria Avila, expressed her outrage following the assassination of an activist mayor in Michoac\u00e1n. She stated that the government must take stronger actions against violence in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Critics have recently targeted Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, accusing her administration of being lenient toward organized crime and not doing enough to combat drug cartels.
