Tymur Mindich, who was once a close business partner of Zelenskyy, has caught the attention of Ukraine’s anti-corruption agencies for his supposed role in a scheme involving high-ranking officials and the state nuclear power company, Energoatom.

Mindich is accused of manipulating loyalists to pressure contractors into paying kickbacks, reportedly as high as 15%, to navigate bureaucratic hurdles. Although he has ties to Zelenskyy, the president has not been accused of any wrongdoing in this case. Following the revelations, Zelenskyy imposed sanctions against Mindich.

On November 11, Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) announced that this investigation had been ongoing for 15 months, involving extensive wiretapping and multiple raids. Reports suggest that Mindich was tipped off about law enforcement’s actions and has fled to Israel.

Ukrainian authorities are now focused on holding accountable those involved in this significant corruption scandal. Zelenskyy emphasized the need for serious actions against corruption during a recent address.

The investigation led to the resignation of top officials within Zelenskyy’s government, including Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko, who previously served as Energy Minister.
