On October 30, Australia’s impressive run of 16 unbeaten matches in the tournament ended when they suffered a five-wicket defeat against India, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

For Jemimah, the match was particularly special. Her remarkable innings of 127 runs helped India achieve the highest run chase in Women’s ODI history. Despite the heartbreak for Australia, Sutherland took the time to send Jemimah a message, praising her poise and strength under pressure.

“After the game, it was tough for them to lose a semi-final. I know how much this means to Sutherland and her passion for cricket, even if she doesn’t show it all the time. She reached out to me, saying, ‘The character you’ve shown throughout this tournament has been outstanding. You totally deserve to own that moment tonight,’” Jemimah explained in a video on the Delhi Capitals’ Instagram.

Both Jemimah Rodrigues and Annabel Sutherland have been retained by the Delhi Capitals for the upcoming 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL) season, joining fellow players Marizanne Kapp, Niki Prasad, and Shafali Verma.

Reflecting on Sutherland’s message, Jemimah expressed her admiration. “I thought to myself, what a person! They just went through a tough loss, yet she still found time to encourage her opponent. I have a lot of respect for her. She’s going to achieve great things for Australia, which is exciting for us but also something to watch for DC. I’m really looking forward to sharing the dressing room with her again,” added Jemimah.

Sutherland Shines on the World Stage

For Sutherland, this World Cup was a significant experience. She took an impressive 19 wickets over seven matches and achieved a five-wicket haul against India in Vizag. With the bat, she scored a total of 117 runs, highlighted by a near-century of 98 against England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt. Jemimah described Sutherland as one of the best all-rounders in women’s cricket today.

“Sutherland is a superstar. Right now, I’d say she’s among the top three all-rounders in the world, possibly even the best. I don’t know if she’d want me to say this, but she’s a role model for everyone,” Jemimah praised.

India went on to win the title, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final at the same venue, thanks to remarkable performances from Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma.

Jemimah Rodrigues Receives Heartfelt Message from Annabel Sutherland After World Cup Exit Jemimah Rodrigues recently shared a touching moment with Annabel Sutherland following the surprising exit of Australia from the Women’s World Cup.
