The deceased soldiers were Major Yaniv Kula, 26, who served as a company commander, and Staff Sergeant Itay Yavetz, 21, both from the 932nd Battalion of the Nahal Brigade. They were stationed in Modi’in-Maccabim-Reut. Initial reports from the IDF indicate that a militant group emerged from a tunnel and attacked an excavation vehicle, resulting in the soldiers’ deaths. A reserve soldier also sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital, as reported by local media.<\/p>\n
Professor Kobi Michael, a researcher at the Institute for National Security Studies, emphasized the precarious nature of the ceasefire during this attack, stating, “Today’s violation of the agreement was severe. I assume that this is not going to be the last one.”<\/p>\n
In response to the assault, the IDF launched airstrikes in southern Gaza. They targeted and destroyed six kilometers of underground militant infrastructure and deployed over 120 munitions.
