Chasing a target of 113 runs in 31 overs, the team was in a strong position at 78 runs from 24.2 overs when the skies opened up for the second time, ultimately leading officials to call off the game.

Leading from the front, Fatima showcased her bowling skills with impressive figures of 4 wickets for just 27 runs in 6 overs, taking down key players like Amy Jones and Heather Knight. Fatima noted that the conditions in Colombo favored fast bowlers, and she aimed to bowl accurately, which resulted in her success.

“It was a day we could have won, but the weather changed our plans,” Fatima said during the post-match presentation. “We knew the conditions would benefit the pacers, and it was unfortunate that we couldn’t finish the game. The pitch suited fast bowlers, and I focused on bowling at a good length,” she explained, reflecting on the missed opportunity.

Highlighting Areas for Improvement

During their innings, Pakistan started strongly, scoring 34 runs in just 6.4 overs before rain interrupted play. Muneeba contributed valuable support, while Omaima Sohail struck four boundaries in her unbeaten 19 runs. While Fatima praised their bowling efforts, she emphasized the need to strengthen their batting.

“Muneeba and Omaima played really well, and the wet conditions suited them,” she added. “Our bowling has been solid over the last few matches, but we definitely need to work on our batting.”

With their first points on the board, Pakistan currently sits at the bottom of the tournament table with a net run rate of -1.887. They are set to face Sophie Devine’s New Zealand next on Saturday, October 18, in Colombo.

Pakistan Women’s Team Pleased with Performance Despite Rain Delay Against England Fatima Sana expressed confidence that Pakistan could have secured a victory against England if not for the rain interruptions during their Women’s World Cup match on October 15, held at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
